George R. N'Namdi established G.R. N'Namdi Gallery in 1981 with the mission of inspiring a new generation of art collectors and increasing the awareness of abstract art.George holds a bachelor's and master's degree in education from Ohio State University, and a doctorate in psychology from the University of Michigan.His interest in art began during college when he collected the works of art students. Through his research and practice as a pyschologist, he observed a connection between a community's mental health and its appreciation for the arts.
George N'Namdi has served on panels concerning the importance of collecting and supporting the arts.He has lectured at numerous museums including the Cincinnati Museum of Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, and the Chicago Art Institute.He and the galleries' exhibitions have been covered by the New York Times, Detroit Free Press, The Chicago Tribune, Art News Magazine, Art in America, Crain's and Black Enterprise.George sits on the board of the Friends of African and African American Art at the Detroit Institute of Arts, along with the Detroit Artist Market, and Michigan's governor has recently appointed him to the Michigan council of Arts and Culture.
George N'Namdi, embarking upon three decades in the gallery business, has enhanced some of the country's most prominent museum and private collections with the works of African American abstract masters, all while continuing his mission of educating the public on the historical and cultural value of the arts.
